Ever wondered who is the best rapper in Africa 2021? Well, we got you covered. Hip Hop being the most competitive genre in the world, there is no doubt that Africa has its place in the Hip Hop community. We have come up with a list of the best rappers in Africa that have been making hits after hits in the past year. This listing first appeared on African Hype .


10. M.anifest

He is a rapper, singer and songwriter from Ghana and is good at what he does in the Rap Industry. He has been active in the rap game since 2005 and he is currently signed to Singitdamnit Music. M.Anifest has 5 albums at the moment but he released his last album in 2016. In the same 2016, he released a diss track “god MC” aimed at Sarkodie and the song won the HipHop Song of the year in the Ghana Music Award the following year.



9. Phyno

Phyno, a rapper from Nigeria is also a singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. He started off as a producer in 2003 and he is well-known for rapping in the Igbo language. Igbo rap basically incorporates traditional Igbo music and African-American music. Phyno has been nominated for a couple of awards in Nigeria and beyond and has won a lot of music awards. His real name is Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike.




8. Nadia Nakai

Nadia a.k.a Bragga is a South African rapper who was born in Zimbabwe. She gained inspiration from Kenyan rapper, Nazizi, and that led her to release her single in 2013 “Like Me” which brought her fame. She has released 1 album and is yet to release another.



7. Khaligraph Jones

His real name is Brian Ouko Omollo and he is a Kenyan rapper. Khaligraph Jones was the first rapper from Kenya to win awards and is internationally recognized by the Hip Hop community. He has a flow that is as quick as Twista’s (American) or M.I (Nigerian) and with this, he has gained a huge following with a lot of loyal fans. He first came to light in 2009 when he participated in the 2009 Channel O MC Africa Challenge and reached the finals.



6. AKA

AKA is a rapper and entrepreneur from South Africa. He also goes by the name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes. In 2014 AKA signed a multi-album deal with Sony Music. He has also opened for Ed Sheeran and 2 Chainz on their South African tours. AKA has released quite a number of albums, as a matter of fact, his 2015 album ‘Levels’ went Certified Gold. Beside AKA being a decorated artist he is a father.



5. M.I Abaga

Jude “M.I” Abaga is a rapper and record producer from Nigeria. M.I rose to fame in 2006 after his song “Crowd Mentality” became popular in his hometown of Jos. M.I Abaga’s passion for music started at an early stage in his life and as a result, the first instrument he fell in love with was a 7-key mini piano. He drew his inspirations from Lauryn Hill and DMX at an early stage in his life. He signed his brother Jesse Jagz to his record label ‘Chocolate City’.



4. Sarkodie

Sarkodie is a Ghanaian rapper, recording artist and entrepreneur. He is often named as the greatest African rapper and in 2015 was ranked the 19th most Influential Ghanaian by e.tv Ghana. He won the Best International Act: Africa category at the 2012 BET Awards, and was nominated in the same category at the 2014 BET Awards. Sarkodie has 79 awards and received nominations in so many other categories. His real name is Michael Owusu Addo.



3. Falz

Third on our list is the ‘This is Nigeria’ rapper, whose popularity rose after making a Nigerian version of ‘This is America’ by Childish Gambino. His style is Afro Hip-Hop: “with a Falz twist to it. It’s a lot of humor and traditional indigenous Nigerian sounds fused with contemporary sounds.” His real name is Folarin Falana and is also an actor. Falz says that his biggest achievement in his life to this day is AMVCA for Best Actor, with that said Falz is the most versatile rapper to feature on this list.



2. Cassper Nyovest

Refiloe Maele Phoolo, popularly known as Cassper Nyovest is rapper and record producer from South Africa. He rose to fame in 2013 with the song ‘Gusheshe’ and in 2014 with ‘Doc Shebeleza’ which both won awards. He has continued to make hits after hits since then including, ‘Ksazobalit’, ‘Baby girl’ and ‘Tito Mboweni’. Cassper Nyovest became the first South African Musicians to fill up a stadium with 72,000 fans during his concert. Let’s face it, many African Musicians haven’t accomplished a goal like that yet.

He goes by the name Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo and is a South African rapper, record producer and songwriter. Nasty C has a very unique rap style that separates him from other rappers.

In 2015, he became the youngest rapper to win at South African Hip Hop Awards for Best Freshman Prize. He has also won many other awards including, Best International Act: Africa, Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop Album, Best Male Album, Best New Artist(BET Awards) from many other award ceremonies. it goes without saying that Nasty C is the best Rapper in Africa 2021.
